Junior paddlers make flying start in Vietnam

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Under-18 boys got off to a flying start when they won both their opening group matches at the 17th SEA Junior Table Tennis Championships in Haiduong, Vietnam, yesterday.

Malaysia defeated both Indonesia and Cambodia 3-0 and were scheduled to wrap up their Group B campaign against Singapore later last night.

The Malaysian girls, however, crashed 0-3 to Singapore.

Boys’ Under-18

Group B: Malaysia bt Indonesia 3-0 (Foh Zheng Liu bt Julius Dwi Cahyo 8-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9; Mohd Asyraf Haiqal bt Nazaruddin Rahmat Raharjo 11-4, 9-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9; Goh Nai Ngee bt Galih Mowo Perbowo 8-11, 11-3, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8).

Malaysia bt Cambodia 3-0 (Foo Dunley bt Nay Saravey 11-7, 3-11, 11-5, 11-4; Nai Ngee bt Tanghav 19-17, 10-12, 11-1, 11-7; Zheng Liu bt Chea Thy 8-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-4).

Girls’ Under-18

Round-robin: Singapore bt Malaysia 3-0 (Cheryl Tang Jiawen bt Lee Rou You 11-5, 13-11, 11-4; Isabelle Li bt Ho Ying 11-1, 11-4, 11-3; Chau Hai Qing bt Lim Ann Er 11-6, 11-3, 11-6).
