Ahmad Shafie, Jupha are the best athletes

JOHOR canoeist Ahmad Shafie Abd Jabar and Perlis cyclist Jupha Somnet were named best male and female athletes of the Malaysia Games which ended yesterday.
Ahmad Shafie dominated canoeing with three gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

He bagged individual gold in the K1 500m, K1 1,000m and K2 1,000m events.

Jupha was named the best female athlete of the Games after sensationally winning four individual gold medals in track cycling.

She topped the podium in the scratch race, individual pursuit, sprint and 500m time trial events, and won silver in the keirin.

Ahmad Shafie and Jupha received their awards from Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek at the closing ceremony yesterday.

Ahmad Shabery also presented the overall trophy to Terengganu chef-de-mission Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Muda.

Terengganu topped the medal tally with 30 gold medals while Selangor were second with 26 gold and Johor third with 21 gold medals.
