National cyclist Jum Pha Som Net from Perlis accomplished a hat-trick of gold medals in the 14th Malaysia Games after winning the women''s Sprint event at the Cheras Velodrome here today.
The Chuping-born rider who won the women''s 10km scratch race on Saturday, had earlier today won the 3km Individual Pursuit before capping a brilliant day to race away with the Sprint gold after beating Sabah''s Lauretta Eva Adrian.
Jum Pha who receives a lot of encouragement and support from her father Som Net said she owes her victory to her father who has been a pillar of strength behind her success.
"Since my target of winning three gold medals has been achieved, I am going to go all out to win more since I will be taking part in two more events tomorrow," she told Bernama after receiving her medal from former Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
Jum Pha will be competing in the women''s Keirin and 500m Time Trial tomorrow which also happens to be the last day of competitions in the Velodrome.
Meanwhile, Kedah rider Mohd Fattah Amri Zaid won the men''s Sprint gold after beating Johor rider Mohamad Fakhruddin Daud.
"This is the first gold medal for Kedah from cycling and I am very happy because this is my best achievement since taking part in three Malaysia Games," he said.
In the 30km Point Race, Terengganu rider Yusrizal Usoff picked up the gold medal after collecting 61 points from the 90-lap race, well ahead of Muhamad Asyraf Misnan who managed 45 points.
"Tomorrow I will be taking part in the Keirin and 1km Time Trial but I have not placed very high hopes as it will be a very strong field," he said.
The last gold medal of the day which featured the 20km Point Race, went to Nurul Ahmar Badeuzzaman from Selangor, who amassed 38 points in the 60-lap race, beating Zahraa Anuawar from Terengganu.
